The time is almost upon me and I just can’t wait to get going. Although I must admit a wee bit bittersweet. As I put my #1 son on a plane to Ithaca NY I will myself be boarding a flight to lovely southern California where I meeting up with my husband and daughter who left earlier this week to move into her dorm room at Biola University. Tim and I will take a week to visit family and friends but the real fun begins on the way home.
You see we are driving back to Seattle and will be stopping at some of our favorite spots along the way. My favorite spots always involve SHOPPING! So first on my list:
Paris to the Moon
Pictures by Candice Carpentar
While I am in town Paris is honoring ZoZo The Magic Queen with a fabulous & wonderfully wacky tea party to celebrate the publication of her 2010 calendar. The store will be stocked with magical treasures. ZoZo will sign her creations and has a special gift for the first 25 calendar purchases. My calendar is marked for Saturday , August 29th, 2 to 5 pm.
Fanciful attire, especially hats & crowns, is encouraged. Prizes will be awarded to the best!
I must pack my crown!
Up the coast near San Francisco way, in Berkeley, is a shop that I have admired for a year now but have never stepped foot in. I have looked at every picture online and zoomed in as far as technically possible just to catch a glimpse at the incredible inventory. This place is a crafters DREAM! They have a online store but really it pales in comparison to what they actually sell and offer at the store. One of my “Favorite” artist teaches there, Ulla Milbrath, Ulla teaches wonderful classes like this one. Unfortunately I will just miss doing a class but I am so excited to go here I can barely stand it. (picture little girl jumping up and down)
Castle In The Air
Pictures from Amy Powers at Inspirico
Castle in the Air can’t be missed and I am sure I will be spending hours (not to mention lots of cash) in there.
Still in the Northern California area there are several other shops that are on my list. How about:
Wendy Addison’s studio Theatre of Dreams
In Port Costa is Wendy Addison’s amazing studio. Wendy is only open a few times a year and whenever else she wants to be (kinda like the soup Nazi if you have ever been to New York) but I am hoping just to get a glimpse inside. You can make an appointment with her in advance. I will let you know if I decide to go that direction, but I know she is extremely busy and don’t want to put her out, soooo maybe I will just get lucky.
I might as well get a hotel room because there are still two other stores I want to visit in Northern California. Specifically in Berkeley where I will stop into:
Tail of the Yak
I have to admit I have never heard of this shop, but it came highly recommended by a friend and then I saw it on Ulla’s blog as one of the shops she loves so I know I will probably love it. Just amazing things and supplies. Lot’s of parasols. Wippeeee! I will get lost in here.
Susan’s Store Room
In San Anselmo is a shop that has become an institution after 3o years in the same location. I have loved Susan’s online store for years and now I will get a chance to actually walk in and touch these treasures. With a unique mixture of gifts, toys and curiosities her shop spans three storefronts and is loaded with incredible finds. This crown is amazing, isn’t it? See it on Susan’s online store here.
Okay, as I am doing this blog post I realize that I am revealing too much. The last shops will be a surprise. You will have to wait.
Don’t worry my pretties, I have packed two fully charged battery packs and my computer. I am so excited to finally be visiting, and revisiting these fabulous, inspirational, unique shops. I will be sure to let you know what pick up. You know I will covet it all!
Oh My Goodness! Look at the time, almost midnight. I will soon be turning into a pumpkin if I don’t head to bed. The alarm will be going off in the wee hours of the morning so I need my rest.
Have a wonderful week and don’t forget to indulge yourself, as I will, in Pretty Little Things.
